OKC students face big challenges in new ‘State of Schools’

It’s a wonder I’ve graduated from both high school and college and am even considering graduate school. The school system in America is a sham and we will soon lose the ability to compete globally if things aren’t changed now!

OKLAHOMA CITY- Just a day after revealing that almost 75 percent of Oklahoma students taking the ACT test were not ready for college, the Oklahoma City Chamber held a “State of the Schools” event.

Instead of test scores, speakers talked about other challenges Oklahoma City Public Schools students face.

Officials say 90 percent of students in the district live near the poverty line.

Also, nearly 17,000 students speak English as a second language.

The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools is offering a program to help needy families with grants to help children take advantage of after-school programs.

They also support the “Teachers Warehouse” to provide school materials to inner city teachers.
